Arsenal goalkeeper Aaron Ramsdale has appeared to distance himself from reports linking him with a summer move to Newcastle.

The England international has been forced to watch on from the sidelines this season, having been usurped as the Gunners' No1 by David Raya.

After weathering the media storm that accompanied his arrival, the Spaniard has impressed between the posts, won the Premier LeagueGolden Glove award and is expected to make his loan move permanent this summer.

Ramsdale, who has made only six appearances in all competitions, has in recent months been linked with a move away and reports on Friday indicated he was on the cusp on agreeing a deal to join Eddie Howe's side next season.

However, the 26-year-old has appeared to refute those claims and took to social media to claim that he is unaware of a deal being struck.

The former Sheffield United stopper, who joined the Gunners in 2021, has two years remaining on his deal at the club.

Newcastle have Martin Dubravka as their current number one with Nick Pope making his return from a dislocated shoulder at the end of April. Dubravka is 35 while Pope turned 32 last month and Newcastle want a younger option as they plan the next phase of their recruitment.

Magpies boss Howe is a big admirer of Ramsdale after signing him at Bournemouth from Sheffield United. He also gave the keeper a second chance after he slept in and missed the bus for a Carabao Cup tie against Chelsea.

Ramsdale was fined and sent on loan to AFC Wimbledon but gave credit to Howe for the manner in which he managed the situation and described it as 'a penny dropping moment' in his career.

Arteta’s treatment of Ramsdale has divided Arsenal fans and Jens Lehmann, a member of Arsene Wenger’s legendary Invincibles squad, has ‘never understood’ why the Englishman so rapidly dropped down the pecking order.

‘I never ever understood the Ramsdale decision,’ the former Arsenal and Germany goalkeeper told Mail Sport last month.

‘If you have a good, brave English ‘keeper at a big English club doing well and then you bring in a Spanish guy who has never played for a big club at that level – it just doesn’t make sense.

‘The ‘keeper is the most important position in the team. If I were Ramsdale, I don’t know how I would react because it’s not easy at that age. When you’re older, it’s different.’
