Pour un Sourire d’Enfant (PSE) -For a Child’s Smile is a non-profit organization founded by Christian and Marie-France des Pallières, operating in Cambodia since 1995. Its mission is to help children escape from destitution and lead them to decent, skilled and well-paid jobs.

Recognized by the local authorities, PSE is working in respect of the countrywith the Cambodiansand thus supports sustainable development.

Six main programs – adapted to the needs of the children – have been developed: food, health, protection, education & schooling, vocational training and help for families.

PSE helps more than 6,500 children and more than 6,000 graduates from PSE Vocational Training program graduates have alreadysuccessfully integrated the job market with a real qualified position. PSE employs more than 650 people in Cambodia (Phnom Penh mainly) and 6 staff at the headquarters in France. 400 volunteers in different countries are actively working on making the organization known through fundraising donations and sponsorships.

In 2000, PSE received the French Human Rights Prize fromthe French Republic.

Job description:

1. Increase their motivation to attend school
2. Improve their academic performance and daily habits
3. Prevent students from becoming High Risk of dropout!

Missions:

Reduce school dropout by:
1. Giving students the opportunity, the space, and the attention to:
● Feel loved, self-confident and emotionally safe at home and at PSE
● Reflect on their present situation, and future decisions
● Obtain academic clearance and orientation

2. Obtaining relevant information about the student’s personal situation –at home and in school– that may be influencing his/her needs, daily habits, and decisions, so we can better support the student moving forward and in the long term.

3. Training relevant stakeholders on how to create safe environments and connected
relationships with students at home and in class.

Main duties of the job:

● Intensive trainings:
- Deliver two types of training; one for students in high risk of dropout –with a duration of one week– and another one for students in high risk of being terminated by PSE –with a duration of two weeks–.
- Respect and follow the correct delivery of the content –activities, games and exercises– of the training.
- Write daily reports of the students, with information obtained during the activities, games and exercises during the day.
- Expected results are; make sure 90% of students understand the lessons delivered by the educators, as well as make sure 90% of them decide to continue their education (back to school or short skill training) right after finishing the training, and 80% continue in school after three months.

● Follow up sessions:
- Have monthly follow up sessions with students who decide to continue their education in school after finishing the Intensive Training, and need our support.
- Write reports of the students, with information obtained during the meeting with the students.
- Expected results are; make sure students continue to feel safe and connected with their peers, teachers and family members, thanks to conflict resolution activities or by getting support from other departments.

● Prevention trainings:
- Deliver monthly Prevention training for students and different stakeholders; parents, educators, and teachers.
- Expected results; make sure parents, educators, and teachers learn how to help students feel safe and connected with others at home, Accommodation, and school.

● Ability to make positive educator-student relationships; offer presence, respect,and guidance.
● Ability to listen without judgement or criticism; help children feel listened to, loved, and have someone to count on when they are stressed or upset.
● Excellent communication skills.
● Excellent active pedagogy skills.
● Ability to be aware of, reflect and share feelings and thoughts in healthy ways.
● Ability to manage anger and stress in front of students and other people.
● Ability to be open minded, positive and easygoing during challenges and setbacks.
● Being passionate about supporting challenging children!

Other required skills for the job:

● Computer skills (MS Word, Excel, PowerPoint and Email)
● High Level of English
● Commitment to PSE’s vision, core values and code of conduct
● Policy compliance and protection of children

Education & experience:

● Studies in Education, Social Studies, Psychology or relevant fields
● 2 year experience with children in difficulty or any relevant experience
