Everything you need to know about Scadutree Fragments and Miquella’s Crosses, including exact locations in the Shadow Realm from Elden Ring’s DLC Shadow of the Erdtree.
This guide is up-to-date for Elden Ring Update 1.12.2
What are Scadutree Fragments
Scadutree Fragments are little pieces of the big tree in the Realm of Shadow that can increase your stats exclusively while you’re in the Realm of Shadow.
You can consume them at Sites of Grace to strengthen your Sacudree Blessing, which is what actually provides the stat boost.
Just like how you have to spend Golden Seeds and Sacred Tears at Sites of Grace to upgrage your Crimson and Cerulean Flasks, it’s not enough to just have the Sacudtree Fragments in your inventory.
In addition, the upgrade costs increase over time, so you’ll have to find more and more Fragments as you get stronger.
Where to get Scadutree Fragments
You can typically find a Scadutree Fragment at each of Miquella’s Crosses, decapitated statues of Marika, and churches, but you can also loot them from the shadow enemies that are holding jars above their heads.
Miquella’s Crosses
Miquella’s Crosses are where the friendly NPCs like to gather, at least outside of dungeons. The crosses mark locations where Miquella has disemboweled or amputated part of himself. There’s almost always some rare crafting materials and a Site of Grace nearby too.
Every single Miquella’s Cross has 1 Scadutree Fragment on the ground nearby. Yeah, that’s the connection. When this guide has all the locations, it will allow you to find all of the Scadutree Fragments AND all of Miquella’s Crosses. Nifty, right?
Decapitated Marika Statues and Churches
There are decapitated statues of Marika throughout the lands between, typically whenever you’re nearby a larger camp for Messmer’s forces or in a church. You’ll find 1 Scadutree Fragment at the base of each if it’s just a little statue in the wilderness. If it’s a church, you’ll find 2.
Shadow Jar Men
Once in a while, you’ll come across a shadow man holding a sparkling jar over his head. The jar contains either a Scadutree Fragment or Revered Spirit Ash, but it will only drop if you defeat them while they’re still holding it.
These enemies are skittish and will run away if they see you, just like the Nobles with the stolen chests containing a Golden Rune in the Lands Between, but if you get too close, sometimes they’ll chuck the jar at you instead.
The shadow jar men always spawn and respawn in the same locations, but it seems that you only get a single attempt with each one. If they break the jar or run away, it seems you miss out on its contents forever. Sparkles do not confirm that it will drop something.
I wouldn’t worry too much about this though. There is a cap on the number of upgrades, and there will almost certainly be excess, just like there are with Golden Seeds. The rules are not yet 100% clear though.
Scadutree Fragment Exact Locations
This section is still under construction as I document all of the Scadutree Fragments throughout the Realm of Shadow. There are currently enough Fragments listed to get you to +15.
Gravesite Plains
The Gravesite Plains are the first area in the Realm of Shadow.
Church of Consolation (x2)
You can find 2 at the base of the Marika Statue inside the Church of Consolation, which is southeast of the Scorched Ruins on the Gravesite Plains. Just follow the road south and you’ll end up there.
Shadow Jar Man East of Scorched Ruins
There’s a shadow jar man at the little graveyard east of Scorched Ruins.
Prospect Town Shadow Jar Man
There’s a Shadow Jar Man in the cemetery behind Prospect Town, south of Belurat.
War Camp Across Ellac Greatbridge
There’s a Marika statue across the Ellac Greatbridge near the entrance to Castle Ensis.
Three-Path Cross
The Three-Path Cross is located on the road as you head north from Scorched Ruins. You’ll meet Redmane Freyja and the Hornsent, who will give you the Three-Path Cross Map. In addition to the Scadutree Fragment, you can also grab an Empyrean Blood Burgeon.
Main Gate Cross
The Main Gate Cross is located just outside of Belurat, Tower Settlement. You’ll meet Sir Ansbach and a vendor named Moore. You can also loot an Empyrean Blood Burgeon.
Belurat Cross
You’ll find the Belurat Cross inside Belurat, Tower Settlement, on the second of the main levels in the dungeon near the MAN-FLIES and SPIDER-SCORPIONS!!!
Castle Ensis Cross
You’ll find Castle Ensis Cross in the middle of the main castle as the first Site of Grace inside. There aren’t any NPCs, but there is a note from Needle Knight Leda.
Pillar Path Cross
You’ll find the Pillar Path cross across the Ellac Greatbridge if you go southeast instead of heading into Castle Ensis. In addition to the Scadutree Fragment, you can pick a couple of Empyrean Blood Burgeons.
You’ll also meet a very depressed, yet somehow still motivated, vendor boy named Thiollier who sells all the poisons along with the Deadly Poison Perfume Bottle weapon. Speak to him again after you’ve visited the Cerulean Coast and he’ll inform you he’s heading there to search for St. Trina.
You will then encounter Thiollier again at the very end of the Stone Coffin Fissure dungeon.
Scadu Altus
Castle Ensis, protected by Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight, connects the Gravesite Plains to Scadu Altus.
Moorth Ruins War Camp
The war camp for Messmer’s forces, northeast of Moorth Ruins, has a Marika statue with a Scadutree Fragment beneat it.
Church of the Crusade (x2)
You can find 2 Scadutree Fragments at the base of the Marika Statue inside the Church of the Crusade, east of the main road on the Scadu Plateau. Be prepared for invasion.
Statue in Front of Special Tunnel
There’s a statue of Marika with a Fragment beneath it. That statue is to the east of the main road near the lower pond that has a bunch of glow worms. It’s positioned at the entrance to a special tunnel. You should go see what’s inside the special tunnel too.
Moorth Ruins Shadow Jar Man #1
There are 3 shadow men with jars at Moorth Ruins. The first is in the “room” the other side of the wall that’s closest to Miquella’s Cross. I haven’t personally seen him drop one though.
Moorth Ruins Shadow Jar Man #2
The second is at the southeastern edge of the ruins being used as Elden Lord bait by one of those Curseblade Acetic frizbee acrobat guys.
Shadow Jar Man #3
The third shadow jar man at Moorth Ruins is to the southeast near the road. He’s next to a buddy. I haven’t seen him drop one either, but he broke the pot my first time seeing him.
Marika Statue at Furnace Golem Camp
There’s a Marika statue at the war camp where you fight the giant Furnace Golem. The walking basket can destroy the statue, but the Scadu Fragment will still be there. If you’re having trouble finding it, reload the area after defeating the Furnace Golem.
Hippocupine at Shadow Keep
As soon as you disembark from the main lift into the Shadow Keep, you’ll be ambushed by a Hippocupine mini-boss. You can enlist the help of the Hornsent to defeat it if you wish. Defeating it will drop Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns along with 2 Scadutree Fragments.
There is a huge statue of Marika standing above it, so presumably, we are in a church and the Hippocupine ate the Fragments. He also drops the Incantation. Aspects of the Crucible: Thorns.
Stairway to Messmer Marika Statue
There’s a tiny statue of Marika built into the wall behind the door to the staircase up to Messmer’s Dark Chamber at the Shadow Keep.
Scadview
There is a statue of Marika with a Scadutree Fragment at its base next to the Shadow Keep, Back Gate, Site of Grace that leads out to Scadview and the mounted boss fight.
Highroad Cross
Miquella’s Highroad Cross is the first Site of Grace you’ll encounter in Scadu Altus. It’s just past the Ensis Moongazing Grounds where you fought Rellana, the Twin Moon Knight. You’ll meet Needle Knight Leda for the first time in the Shadow Realm, along with the Hornsent again.
You can loot an Empyrean Blood Burgeon, and get the New Cross Map, Monk’s Missive note, and May the Best Win emote. If you speak with Leda again after Hornsent, you can tattle on him.
Moorth Ruins Cross
Moorth Ruins Cross is located at Moorth Ruins. From the Highroad Cross, turn right at the fork in the road and head southeast down the hill. You can loot a Scadutree Fragment and an Empyrean Blood Burgeon.
You’ll also meet Dryleaf Dane, and if you use the emote you got alongside the Monk’s Missive (May the Best Win), you’ll get to beat up an unarmed man, unlock hand-to-hand combat via the Dryleaf Arts “weapon”, and get his hat!
Scaduview Cross
Scaduview Cross is located atop the butte to the east of the Fort of Reprimand. The only company you’ll have is Miquella’s eyeball, but you get 3 Empyrean Blood Burgeons in addition to that Scadutree Fragment!
In order to get up there, head directly south from Moorth Ruins, and there will be a Spiritspring (horse whirlwind) for you to crack open.
Storehouse Cross at Shadow Keep
The Storehouse Cross is located on the fourth floor of the Specimen Storehouse tower at the Shadow Keep. There aren’t any NPCs at the Cross itself, but you can find Redmane Freyja and Sir Ansbach hunting for clues along with a message from the latter.
Cerulean Coast and Crimson Ridge
There are a couple of Scadutree Fragments along the Cerulean Coast and Crimson Ridge, but not as many as the other regions.
Hippocupine at Crimson Ridge
You recieve 1 Scadutree Fragment for defeating the Hippocupine at the westernmost lake on the Crimson Ridge.
Demi-Human Cove
There’s a little demi-human operation in the Y-shaped cove that goes far inland on the western part of the coast. The Scadutree Fragment is in a tiny cave with a large demi-human in it.
Cerulean Coast Cross
The Cerulean Coast Cross is up on the butte past the penninsula with the Fissure. There aren’t any NPCs, and instead of Empyrean Blood Burgeon, you can grab 3 Nectarblood Burgeons, along with the Scadutree Fragment.
Fissure Cross
There’s a cross inside the Stone Coffin Fissure dungeon. This subterranean dungeon is accessible by dropping down the hole at the end of the peninsula at the Cerulean Coast. There aren’t any NPCs at this cross, but there is a ghost that’s rather critical of Miquella.
You can summon Thiollier to help fight the Putrescent Knight and speak to him in a little cavern afterwards. I highly recommend checking out that cavern.
Rauh Ruins
Rauh Ruins will likely be one of the later places you visit, as you can only unlock it after getting through the Shadow Keep on Scadu Altus. However, you reach the map by going underneath Scadu Altus near the Spiritspring leading to the Northern Nameless Mausoleum with the Red Bear Armor Set inside.
Shadow Jar Man
There are numerous Shadow Jar Men being used as Elden Lord bait in Rauh Ruins by those Curseblade Ascetics. The one here had a Scadutree Fragment inside.
Hippocupine at Rauh Ancient Ruins
There is a Hippocupine at Rauh Ancient Ruins. Take the elevator to the south (left) of the Viaduct Minor Tower Site of Grace and beat back the Bloodfiends that stand in your way.
Altar at Rauh Ancient Ruins, West
There’s an altar in a room in the western ancient ruins with a bunch of shadow men spamming little flame sprites while a Curseblade Ascetic lies in wait.
Miquella’s Cross at Rauh Ancient Ruins, East
Once you make it out of Spider-Scorpiontopia, stick on the main path and you’ll end up at the Cross at Rauh Ancient Ruins, East. There’s no NPCs, only an Ancient Ruins Cross Message and a Scadutree Fragment.
Abyssal Woods
The Abyssal Woods are the home of the Flame of Frenzy, guarded by hundred-eyes Eldritch nightmares.
Church Ruins (x2)
At the eastern edge of the Abyssal Ruins, there are Church Ruins. You’ll find 2 Scadutree Fragments at the base of the stolen (or disintegrated) Marika statue.
You can find the Frenzyflame Perfume Bottle in the same church.
Northern Woods
At the northern edge of the Abyssal Woods, you’ll find a Scadutree Fragment at the base of a tree near a gaggle of Hornsent Inquisitors (or maybe Frenzied Rats, I can’t remember.)
