I will be purchasing this one as well to add to my personal cookbook collection and can hardly wait to actually hold it in my hands. I particularly like this one as it feels so personal and I really enjoyed all the stories behind each recipe. It has such beautiful looking pictures, wonderful everyday recipes, and easy-to-follow steps. Easy and simple is my way of cooking! Highly recommend! 4☆ Scrumptious and Wholesome a delight to read. This is the first cookbook I have read by Valerie Bertinelli and I was pleasantly surprised how lovely and homely this book was. The recipies were very wholesome and warming. Valerie has really thought about her recipies and you can clearly see she is passionate about her food. Each chapter has been cleverly written starting from breakfast, right through to sweet treats and desserts. My only criticism is the Ingredients Metric measurements. Although at the back of the book there is a Metric conversion chart which is very handy. I do like that Valerie has considered her readers and has included little sub ingredient notes to help readers find certain products or what they can use as a substitute which I think is extremely useful. She has also included little sub notes for Equipment and Trick Technique tips to help the reader understand the different methods used and what equipment will be needed. Here are a few sample recipes included in the book so you can get a feel of the scrumptious delights included.... -Bacon- caramel Scuffins with Caramel Clotted Cream So as you can see a great variety of mouthwateringly delicious recipies. I really did enjoy reading this beautiful cookbook. A great book or present to add to any food lovers collection. Ideal for readers who love food, want to try something different, love cooking/baking books, enjoy beautifully illustrated books that will leave your tummy rumbling. I received this book from the Publisher for free via Netgalley, in which I voluntarily reviewed My Review is also on My Blog website:
The pictures were gorgeous and made my tummy rumble.
The Ingredients are measured in Cups, Ounces and Spoons. I find this frustrating as I would rather have oz and grams or just cups.
This is really just my personal gripe as I find it can really confuse bakers/cooks especially if new to cooking.
For example if you cannot find Mascarpone Cheese or Italian Cream Cheese, you can substitute it with regular cream cheese.
All these little tips help the reader feel more at ease with attempting the recipies.
So no matter what your skill level you should be able to attempt it.

I received a free electronic copy of this from NetGalley for my honest review. This is a beautifully warm and delightfully yummy cookbook. I love that Valerie Bertinelli made this a personal cookbook; inviting you into her home with pictures of it and the stories behind each recipe and why she choose them. Beautiful pictures, wonderful recipes and easy-to-follow steps.

Celebrity cookbook including many beautiful photos of author's home as well as finished recipes.
Appears to be a mix of California-type cuisine as well as authors home favorites.
I didn't get to read in great detail as I received a complimentary PDF copy from netgalley and was unable to access this from my phone or kindle which is how I do most of my reading.
I did however like most of the recipes that I read in full and she has a great selection including breakfast and desserts.

I enjoyed the writing of Valerie. The recipes seemed to be easy without fancy ingredients. Most or not healthy, but there are a couple that I am going to try and glad I checked this cookbook out.

Valerie Bertinelli is well-known name in my household, so given the chance to check out her cookbook and review it, I couldn't resist! As the current star of her Food Network show, Valerie's Home Cooking, and co-host of the network's Kids Baking Championship, Valerie is comfortable in the kitchen and sharing her recipes with people across the globe, cooking up dishes that will please anyone's taste-buds. There is a story behind every recipe, whether it was created by Valerie or passed down her through her family. There are six chapters in this cookbook. The dishes are a mix of simple and complex, but all elegantly put together, and presented with beautiful visuals throughout that showcase the dishes. I thought this is a great cookbook to reach for during the holidays, family gatherings, or special occasions, but wouldn't exactly fit in everyone's budget when it comes to using this to cook from on a weekly basis.

I’ve been a fan of fellow Delaware girl, Valerie Bertinelli since One Day at a Time. And I adored her on Hot in Cleveland. I was flipping channels one day and came across her show, Valerie’s Home Cooking on The Food Network. I haven’t missed a show since. So I was beyond thrilled when I had the chance to check out her new cookbook VALERIE’S HOME COOKING: More than 100 Delicious Recipes to Share with Friends and Family. I’m so glad I did! I got to learn more about Valerie from her wonderful narrative throughout VALERIE’S HOME COOKING. Her stories are enjoyable to read, and they struck me as very heartfelt. I could tell the love she has for family, friends, and food. The photos in this book are magnificent. Vibrant and sharp, the photos of the dishes Ms. Bertinelli prepared made my mouth water. I could almost smell each dish. The photos of the actress cooking in her home, and often outside, are simply stunning. Valerie Bertinelli is a beautiful woman who seems to look better every year. In the photos of her cooking, her happiness at what she is doing is very clear not just on her face, but in her eyes as well. As for the recipes . . . Oh wow! She has covered such a range of dishes, from super easy, to a bit more complex, using plain, simple ingredients, as well as items home cooks may not readily have in their pantries, but can certainly find at the local market. There is something for everyone. Even those with finicky tastes like mine will find many dishes to try. There are many that will certainly become new favorites in my house! Readers will find recipes such as . . . In my opinion, there is no wrong person for VALERIE’S HOME COOKING: More than 100 Delicious Recipes to Share with Friends and Family.
Four-Cheese Crab Mac ‘n’ Cheese . . . Slow Cooker Beef . . . English Lemon Cake . . . Quick Rotisserie Chicken Gumbo . . . Roasted Asparagus and Mushrooms with Chile-Lemon Salt . . . Valerie’s Irish Coffee with Lemon-Vanilla Whipped Cream . . . Spicy Killer Shrimp Soup . . . and Homemade Cannoli!
Those don’t even come close to the many amazing recipes within the pages of this incredible cookbook.

Honestly, my interest in this book stems from seeing Valerie Bertinelli on various shows on the Food Network channel. Overall, I think this is a pretty good cookbook that's bound to have a recipe for everyone to enjoy. The recipes in this book are organized by meal/course, making it pretty easy to navigate. The chapters include Rise and Shine, Getting Through the Day, Happy Hour, Around the Table, A Side Note, and Finishing Sweet. Most of the recipes have photos with them, which is helpful. Some of them could have been a little better quality, but that's nitpicking a bit. This book seems really good for a beginner. The steps are numbered, and the language is very conversational like "hey, see this carrot, cut it" which makes it easy to follow. Part of the home cook appeal to this book, at least to me, is that some stuff is not scratch made. That is, things like caramel sauce in a jar, frozen blueberries, jarred giardiniera and other "normal people" ingredients are used throughout. It's easier and more likely that I'll cook with this little cheats included. I appreciate the little personal stories, and that there's photos of Valerie cooking some of these dishes throughout the course of the book. Some of the dishes that sound the best to me include Bloody Mary Tea Sandwiches, Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Shrimp with Cherry Cola BBQ Sauce, and Savory Horseradish Panna Cotta. All in all, I think this is a really approachable cookbook that has a lot of yummy sounding dishes in it. The instructions are clear, the photos are pretty good, and there's a good amount of variety. I received a copy of this book in exchange for my honest review.

Delicious! Valerie creates a nice balance between cookbook and regular book. I would probably not make all of the recipes, but it makes it so interesting to read her commentary on the background of the recipe, where she got it and/or why she included it.

I am a big fan of Valerie Bertinelli and I love this cookbook, it is filled with so many great recipes. Each recipe begins with a paragraph or two about the recipe and from reading these I felt like I got to know Valerie a little bit and they made me even more anxious to try some of the recipes. Lots of great pictures are included, and none of the recipes were too difficult that I wouldn't feel comfortable trying them. Some of my favorite recipes from the book include slow cooker beef sandwiches with giardiniera aioli, quinoa salad with cilantro-lime dressing, and chicken with lemon-lime sauce. There is even a chapter with fun cocktails for a party. I know I will be using this cookbook often. I received this book for an honest review from NetGalley.

I don't just cook because I have to eat or because I am the only person in my house who cooks, I cook because I love it! For me, it is a stress reliever and since I grow my own vegetables, I get to use what my garden produces during the Long Island growing season. I have a shelf of cookbooks in my library as well as a pretty extensive collection on my Kindle and I am always looking for cookbooks that either teach a cooking style I am unfamiliar with or present recipes in an appealing way. This book is full of not only delicious recipes, but also stories about the author's life, background information on the recipes, and great pictures that had me writing a shopping list immediately.
I recently downloaded this book and so far have made Valerie's Slow-Cooked Sloppy Joes, BLT Pasta, Quick Sweet-and-Sour Pickle Spears, Roasted Radishes and Mom's Carrot Cake with Cream Cheese Frosting. All delicious and I was able to use fresh garden produce in new ways. When the fall broccoli and beets are ready, I will be making the Broccoli Salad and the Pickled Beet Salad. This is just the beginning for me though, as there are numerous other recipes I plan to try.
This is a great resource with detailed, easy to follow recipes, as well as some with notes like Cooking Tip, Ingredient Note, Equipment or Make Ahead. This book will be a go-to resource for me for a long time and I foresee buying several copies as gifts for some foodie friends. Thank you, Valerie Bertinelli, Time Inc. Books and NetGalley for an ARC in exchange for an honest review.

Wow! This is honestly the best cookbook I have ever seen! When I first opened the envelope it came in, I didn't expect the book to be as pretty as it is. The pages are also so nice and they are thick, which is great for a cookbook. The pictures in it are beautiful as well. The layout of it is perfect. The recipes are also varied. I think the best thing about this book is the fact that none of the recipes are "dumb". In alot of cook books, they include little recipes for kids that don't taste good, but are just to get your kids in the kitchen. This book had none of that, but it had many recipes kids would enjoy. I think this book belongs in every kitchen. It is a very beautiful book. I got an ARC from the publisher, but it did not effect my rating.

I was sent this cookbook by the publisher to look it over and check out the recipes. When I took it out of the envelope, I was surprised that it was a hardcover and a beautiful one at that. I love the notes by Valerie before each recipe. The photos are beautiful and the recipes are not complicated. I loved that she reinvented some of the classic childhood favorites. The tuna noodle casserole looks really enticing and flavorful. So much better than the traditional dish. She appears to be down to earth and you can tell that she loves her family and friends and her love of cooking through the notes on each recipe page. Perfect cookbook for a family and anyone that wants to cook.

Valerie's Home Cooking by Valerie Bertinelli is an excellent collection of over 100 recipes. Recipes are detailed and easy to follow. Book has beautiful photographs and features charming comments from Ms. Bertinelli. Many recipes are classics but modernized by unique twists. I particularly loved Quick Rotisserie Chicken Gumbo, which was so easy and delicious, the Lobster BLTs, which was such a brilliant combination of two of my all-time favorites and the simple but so tasty Ham, Apple and Cheddar sliders . You can not miss with this book that offers a great variety of recipes for all occasions. From breakfast, lunch and dinner, to appetizers, drinks and desserts. This book covers them all and does it very well. I am posting an honest review after reading an ARC copy of this book.

Valerie's Home Cooking is a fantastic cookbook! The recipes are easy, nostalgic, and everything you want from home cooking, with great updates and a few surprises mixed in. Valerie has put everything from desserts and cocktails to crock pot time savers into this comprehensive collection. Anecdotes for each recipe were short and sweet, which kept you engaged as you read. This will be a great resource for go-to easy (yet impressive) recipes for me. Everything is simple in execution but complex in flavors. Excited to make a few of these!

I received an Advanced Reader Copy from NetGalley for my unbiased opinion of the book. This book felt like a sit down meal with a friend while swapping recipes. Where do I begin??? I loved the personal insights to Valerie's life, suggestions, drinks chapter, how it was categorized, etc... I made Egg-in-a-Bagel, Berry Kir Royale, Rosemary & Pepper Crackers all memorable!!! This is the first cookbook where I want to make every recipe in it! This cookbook is money well spent and Valerie Bertinelli couldn't be more warm, welcoming, and wonderful than she already is.

Valerie Home Cooking by Valerie Bertinelli is a free NetGalley ebook that I read in early October. If this book being cross-promoted through the Hy-Vee grocery store magazine wasn't enough to turn my head towards it, Bertinelli's friendly, expressive, and easygoing attitude (i.e. I fully agree with the daily sidetrackedness involved with menu planning and being inspired by ingredients to brainstorm about cooking) and sumptuous, yet stylized breakfast, drinks, lunch, side dishes, dinner, and dessert recipes would've done so, too. My favorite recipes include lobster BLTs, chickarina soup, peppered beef tenderloin with savory horseradish panna cotta, slow cooker red beans & rice, four-cheese crab mac 'n cheese, spicy killer shrimp soup, and strawberry love cake.

What a great foodie book. More than just recipes, Valerie shares thought and tips throughout the book. The format is easy to read, ingredients are listed on the side and the directions are clear. Pictures show what the final dish will look like. My favorite chapter is Finishing Sweet with the Smores popcorn and Peanut butter chocolate pretzels coming in a close 2nd. There are also a lot of Broccoli Salad recipes around but this one has a great flavor base with lots of crunch and sweet. Can't wait for the physical hardbound book to be published in October. Will be a perfect Christmas gift for the novice or experienced cook on your list.

Excellent book! Has recipes for normal, every day home -cooking. Normally, when I look at cookbooks there are recipes that are complicated or for fancy diners at holiday time, not this one. This one I will use over and over!

Divided into chapters according to meal categories and gathering types, the description that precedes each recipe confirms Valerie's philosophy that much of the joy of cooking and eating comes from sharing the experience with people we love. Most of these recipes are for good ole homey comfort foods. Homemade Hamburger Helpa' and tomato soup with grilled cheese croutons come to mind. There are even chapters for cocktails and snacks. The chapters include beautiful photos of food, tablescapes, and lovely backyard and garden dining spaces. It's a nice addition to the modern coffee table cookbook collection. I think I should put this on my Christmas list.
I voluntarily read an advanced review copy provided by the publisher via Netgalley and I offer my opinion in response.

The pictures are beautiful in this cookbook! Valerie Bertinelli is someone I grew up watching on TV. To be able to read her personal stories about her grandmother, her home and family is a real treat. The recipes are amazing. A lot of them are not every day recipes for me but certainly great special occasion recipes.

Who did not love Barbara ( Valerie's character from a famous TV show on the air in the '70s? ) Valerie's bubbly personality comes through this cookbook and actually tends to make you want to cook. Pictures are wonderful, recipes are so easy to follow and she does not use ingredients hard to find. Every chapter and a few pages in between she tells the story of why this recipe reminds her of something which just jumps right off the pages to the reader. Definitely a cookbook you could refer back to from time to time.

I’ve become more selective as time goes by about the cookbooks I choose to add to my already overflowing shelves; however, I couldn’t resist trying out this one by Valerie Bertinelli. A few years ago I purchased One Dish At a Time: Valerie’s cookbook that is filled her very best recipes. Since I loved that one so much, I was thrilled that she came out with a second one. As with the first one, Valerie shares her thoughts and stories about herself throughout the book. Valerie has definitely kept up with some of the latest in food fads and added others have been staples for some time. Here is a sampling of the recipes in this cookbook: All-in-one breakfast smoothie; steel-cut overnight oatmeal; blueberry-banana-oat breakfast muffins; bacon-caramel scuffins with caramel clotted cream; Dutch baby with lemon curd; egg-in-a-bagel hole; breakfast biscuit sammies; ham, apple and cheddar sliders; lobster BLT’s; tuna melts; turkey meatloaf burgers; spinach and strawberry salad with warm bacon vinaigrette; Quinoa salad with cilantro-lime dressing; berry Kir Royale; key lime martini; mom’s amped-up snack mix; chicken satay with peanut sauce; southwestern egg rolls with salsa dipping sauce; peppered beef tenderloin; Tony’s espresso rib-eye; hamburger helpa; four-cheese crab mac and cheese; Mom’s risotto; Aunt Norma’s sauerkraut and pork; chickarina soup; Posole; lobster bisque; broccoli salad; raosted radishes; mom’s onion rings; rissole potatoes; white bread; slow cooker red beans and rice; peanut butter chocolate pretzels; mini zeppoles with marsala sauce; and homemade cannoli. As you can see, there are a lot of recipes in this book. I’m sure everyone can find some that they like.

I love to cook and this is a cookbook that I am very happy to add to my collection. Valerie's love for cooking really shows throughout the pages. The recipes included reflect how she loves to prepare food that will please family and friends but are not overly complicated to make or have hard to find ingredients. Many of the recipes have photos and all of them have a story on why she wanted to include it in the book. Some recipes also have tips on how far in advance you can prepare the dish or helpful hints like substitutions for certain ingredients. My favorite thing included in the book was the pictures of the stained recipes cards from her mother as that clearly shows some well-loved recipes. While some of the recipes have been featured on her show or on the Food Network website, I personally love having the recipes in a cookbook format that I can grab off the shelf when wanting to try a new dish. The recipes range from such comfort foods like Sloppy Joes or Tuna Noodle Casserole to Glazed Short Rib Stacks, Rosemary and Pepper Crackers, and Vegetarian Stuffed Peppers and Tomatoes. The book has a little bit of everything including soups, salads, sandwiches, entrees, cocktails and desserts. I'm personally excited to try the Bucatini with Wilted Spinach and Lemon Mascarpone Sauce. I recommend this cookbook to anyone who enjoys her cooking show or anyone looking for simple and easy to prepare dishes that will please a family. Thank you to the publisher for sending me a free copy! I was under no obligation to review the book and all views expressed are my honest opinions.

Valerie Bertinelli has a warm, accessible personal appeal which has only grown with time. She’s been a TV presence in our lives for many years, but somehow, she seems as fresh and sunny as ever. Her successful Food Network show, “Valerie’s Home Cooking”, has now generated a cookbook of the same name. She shares her home in Los Angeles with her husband, Tom, and their pets. Her description of that home goes like this: “The kitchen is light and airy…backyard includes a vegetable garden…herbs…fruit trees…and even a vineyard.” She also finds much inspiration in her family’s cooking legacy, and the more than 100 recipes in the book are collected from family, friends, travels, and Valerie’s own imagination. The beautiful photos throughout the book are bright and earth-toned as befits the California setting. Each recipe includes a commentary from Valerie, and those recipes are user-friendly in both preparation and easily-found ingredients. This is good food to be shared with good people, and, hey—have fun with “Happy Hour”. I smiled a lot while reading this cookbook—there are so many recipes that I want to try: “Egg-in-a-Bagel-Hole”; “Valerie’s Irish Coffee with Lemon Vanilla Whipped Cream”; “Bacon-Wrapped Jalapeno Shrimp with Cherry Cola BBQ Sauce”; “Chicken with Lemon Wine Sauce”; “Aunt Norma’s Sauerkraut & Pork”; “BLT Pasta”; “Vegetarian Stuffed Peppers and Tomatoes”; “Tomato Soup with Grilled Cheese Croutons”; “Broccoli Salad”; “Slow-Cooker Red Beans and Rice”; “S’mores Popcorn”; “Strawberry Love Cake”; “Holiday Applesauce Cake”; and many more wonderful dishes. I'm a huge fan of Valerie's show and was so excited to get a chance to see her new cookbook. I swear there's nothing she makes that I don't want to eat. This book takes all her mad skills and let's us mere mortals cook (or at least try to cook) just like her. It's absolutely FABULOUS! She's covered all the meals, desserts and drinks too. The pictures are beautiful and will make you hungry. I've marked my favorites and am eager to get cooking. Great job, Valerie!

This is a great cookbook from Valerie Bertinelli. She has a TV show with the same name, and the recipes in this book were either created by Valerie or have been passed down from her family and friends. Beautiful full color photographs of each recipe are included. This book has a personal touch as Valerie opens up her home and her kitchen to you like a long lost friend. Most recipes contain a section with cooking tips and/or variations to help you get the most out of the recipe. The chapters are broken down as follows: I recommend this book to anyone looking for simple, elegant recipes, something other than your basic cookbook, and, of course, fans of Valerie. I received this as a free ARC from Time Inc. Books, Oxmoor House on NetGalley in exchange for an honest review.
